I am sure many people here already know this, but for anyone who does not, I recently realized something that seems like a much better way to use Venture X miles for travel purchases.
Instead of redeeming miles directly through the travel portal, it seems more valuable to simply book the flight, hotel, or rental normally using the Venture X card first. That way you still earn miles on the purchase itself.
After the purchase posts, you can go into the app and use the "Cover Travel Purchase" option to redeem miles against that travel expense. In my experience, the miles were deducted immediately and the statement credit showed up very quickly afterward.
It feels like a nice approach because you still earn rewards on the original purchase and can effectively erase the travel cost afterward.
Am I missing any downside here, or is this generally the better approach for most travel redemptions?
