Just got back from a couples weekend at Sunnyside Lodge in Tahoe City and what a mix of peaceful and chaotic. We picked the place for the lakeside vibe and classic lodge charm which did not disappoint, but didn’t expect the severe thunderstorm warning that hit on Friday. We were sipping wine on the deck when alerts started going off about half-dollar-sized hail. Welcome to summer in the Sierra, I guess?
Still, it actually turned out kinda memorable. We huddled inside, watched the storm roll over the lake, and it felt oddly romantic in that snuggle under a blanket while nature loses its mind outside kind of way. Definitely wouldn’t plan around a thunderstorm, but it added a little drama to the weekend we weren’t expecting.
Anyone else been in Tahoe during summer storms like this? Is this just normal now?
