I’m providing an update regarding an issue I mentioned previously. I purchased a USA Rail Pass but had not made any bookings yet. However, at around 4:00 AM EST a couple of nights ago, multiple trips were booked using my rail pass without my authorization.
I do not share my account details with anyone, and I have not used my account on public or shared devices.
I contacted Amtrak support, and while they were helpful, they seemed unsure about what happened. After investigating, they suggested that an Amtrak agent may have booked these trips over the phone. They couldn’t provide further details, but they assisted me in canceling the reservations and said their security team would look into the matter.
What made this even more confusing is that the bookings included a segment from Portland (PDX) to Vancouver, BC, followed by Vancouver to Seattle. I understand that the rail pass typically has restrictions, especially regarding certain international routes, yet these segments appeared to be included without additional charges.
I’m sharing this for a few reasons:
To check if anyone else has experienced something similar
In case this booking was made in error and the intended traveler needs to adjust their plans
And as an interesting situation for those familiar with rail travel
