I am new to non-rev travel and thought I understood how the system works, but I ran into something confusing today on Alaska Airlines.
Earlier, I was first on the boarding priority list based on my travel code and seniority, ahead of several other parties. I was also the first person to check in and get added to the standby list, so I assumed I would remain at the top.
However, after leaving for a few hours and coming back, I noticed I had dropped to 7th on the waitlist. Later, when I checked again, I was shown as 2nd in priority behind a solo traveler.
I am trying to understand what could cause this change in position and how the non-rev waitlist ordering actually works in practice.
