I am planning a long-haul trip later this year and looking at Starlux Airlines economy fares. I am trying to understand the practical difference between the Saving and Basic fare options, which are about $163 apart.
From what I can see, the main difference seems to be seat selection:
Basic fare: Allows free seat selection (including forward or standard seats).
Saving fare: Does not include seat selection.
My confusion is mainly about timing and cost:
If I book the Saving fare, am I able to purchase or select any seat afterward (immediately after booking or only closer to departure)? Or are seat selection options restricted or delayed for that fare type?
It seems like I could potentially book the cheaper fare and then just pay for a seat later, which might still be cheaper overall than upgrading to Basic upfront. But I am not sure if there are restrictions, limited seat availability, or higher seat selection fees that would make that approach worse.
In general, I am unclear on when seat selection becomes available and whether there are meaningful disadvantages beyond the upfront inclusion.
Any clarification or real experience with Starlux fare rules would be appreciated.
