About 15 days ago I received an email from American Express, and I’m trying to understand what it means for my account situation.
Context: roughly a year ago I missed a payment due to being out of work after a car accident. That led to my account being closed. Before and after that incident, I had a consistent history of paying at least the minimum on time.
Later, once I received a settlement from my accident, I contacted support and paid off the remaining balance in full over the phone. The agent mentioned I might be eligible for a financial relief program and encouraged me to apply, though nothing was guaranteed.
Given that history, I’m now unsure whether my account is permanently closed or if there is still a chance it could be reinstated depending on review. I’m trying to understand how strict Amex is in situations like this and what the likely outcome might be.
