I see this all the time and it drives me nuts.
Roller in one bin, backpack in another, coat spread out like it bought a ticket too. Meanwhile someone three rows back is circling looking for a single inch of space.
On a 717 especially, those bins aren’t huge to begin with. If everyone just put the roller up and slid the personal item under the seat like they’re supposed to, boarding would be so much smoother.
And yeah, this is exactly why people hustle to their seats. It’s not about being dramatic, it’s about making sure you don’t get forced to gate check because someone decided their jacket needed first class treatment.
