Citi just made it easier to earn AAdvantage miles, even without an annual fee.

.I’m pretty excited about Citi’s update allowing transfers to American Airlines AAdvantage from no-annual-fee cards like the Double Cash and Custom Cash. While the 1,000:700 ratio isn’t as sweet as the 1:1 from Strata Premier or Elite, it still opens up some great flexibility, especially for those of us who like to avoid annual fees. I’ve already got both no-AF cards in my wallet, so this feels like a win for casual earners.

That said, if you’re serious about mileage redemptions, pooling points into a premium card is still the way to go. But being able to earn AAdvantage miles at 2x on unbonused spend with the Double Cash is kind of wild.
