This is mainly a PSA regarding recent changes at the Chicago Union Station Metropolitan Lounge operated by Amtrak.
Around 12–18 months ago, Business Class passengers on Amtrak Midwest services were reportedly no longer allowed access to the more spacious two-story lounge, making the Business Class upgrade less valuable.
Additionally, passengers without sleeping car accommodations are now reportedly not allowed to use the luggage storage area to leave bags while exploring the city. I learned this while using a lounge pass during a layover.
It was also noted that the baggage storage service near the Metra ticketing area has increased in price from $10 to $20 per bag.
Overall, this feels like a downgrade in lounge and station services for short layover passengers who previously relied on these facilities to leave the station briefly.
Has anyone seen similar changes at other Metropolitan Lounges, such as New York or Los Angeles?
