Currently on Carnival Sunshine and we had a pretty scary few hours early this morning. Around 1:55am on March 1 we lost power, propulsion, and sanitation. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel was visible ahead of us, so we weren’t that far out.
Power cut in and out a few times. First announcement from the captain came around 2:30am and full power seemed to come back around 2:45. We were told the Coast Guard initially denied access into the bay around 4am. Tug boats showed up around 8am. As of now we’re moving under our own power with tugs alongside and expecting to get in around 11:30.
There are still issues with some non essential systems. Ship WiFi is down, even though they’ve said it’ll be opened up for free so people can adjust travel plans. I’m only online because I can connect through my carrier’s satellite.
That said, the crew has been amazing. They’ve kept food going, bars open, casino running, and have stayed calm even with some understandably frustrated passengers. I genuinely feel for them.
