I had a flight to Nome, Alaska, booked with Alaska Airlines until a volcano in Russia changed everything. Ash from Klyuchevskoy’s eruption on the Kamchatka Peninsula was so intense it triggered a warning from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Center in Anchorage, forcing Alaska Airlines to cancel flights to Nome and Kotzebue. Ash at 35,000 feet can wreck jet engines, so yeah I get it.
Still, wild that something across the ocean could ground my trip. Welcome to flying in Alaska.
