SoCal might be getting a hotel boom, but up here in the North Bay, it's still pretty sleepy. California's already seen 36 hotel openings by mid-2025 a big jump from last year but the only action in this region so far is a single Hilton Home2 Suites in Rohnert Park. Meanwhile, San Diego just opened a 1,600-room behemoth that’s been in the works since 2001. Kind of wild.
The North Bay isn’t completely off the radar though there are a bunch of hotels technically under construction, but several are stalled due to financing or permit issues. Feels like we’re always seeing renderings and press releases, but then crickets. I get that lenders are skittish, but it’s still frustrating to see so much development energy go south while Napa and Sonoma inch along.
Anyone have eyes on those projects in Healdsburg or Calistoga? Or are we in another cycle of big plans that don’t go anywhere?
