Buying Spirit tickets at the airport actually works

I was flying out of O’Hare today and stopped by the Spirit counter to book a future trip to Puerto Rico. I’d always heard buying at the airport is cheaper for Spirit and Frontier, and yeah… it’s real.

Couple things I learned the hard way though. Spirit’s website info for ORD was wrong:

Website said Terminal 3, but Spirit is actually in Terminal 2

Website said counter hours were 7–10pm, but in reality it was 9am–6pm

Not sure if that’s an O’Hare thing or just Spirit being Spirit, but don’t trust the website. Best bet is showing up during normal daytime hours.

Savings were legit:

4 legs total (ORD to MCO to SJU and back)

About $25 saved per leg

Website price was around $370

Airport price came out to about $260

If you live close to an airport and already know your dates, it’s absolutely worth stopping by the counter. Just double check terminal and hours at the airport itself, not online.
