Busy airport tip: using the “declare goods” lane

Here is a tip I have used a few times when arriving at busy airports and going through Customs.

Have a small item with you (for example, a pack of cookies from your previous stop). When you arrive, go through the “something to declare” lane instead of the “nothing to declare” line.

Since fewer people choose that lane, it is usually much less crowded. Show the item to the officer and ask if it’s okay to bring it in. In my experience, it has always been allowed and I’ve gotten through faster than the regular queue.
