Flying NY–Dublin in August for my mom’s 70th and really wanted to get my parents into business. My dad is 6’3 and not super comfortable in economy anymore.
I called before booking and was told there were plenty of open business seats and no one on the waitlist. Agent suggested I book Saver economy and request an Avios upgrade, said it would likely clear within 5–7 days.
So I booked and transferred 400k Chase points to Avios for the upgrade.
Now I’ve called back and they’re saying the request is still pending because the flight is far out. They confirmed we’re still the only ones on the waitlist and those same 15+ seats are still showing open, but there’s no timeline for when it might clear.
Has anyone gone through this process with Aer Lingus? Do upgrades usually clear closer to departure? Should I escalate or just wait it out?
I’m mostly stressed about having moved that many points into Avios and not knowing if the upgrade will actually happen.
