This update from Business Insider could change how we travel. I recently took that same NYC to Niagara Falls route on Amtrak and splurged on the business class ticket, thinking the extra $100 would make the 10-hour journey more comfortable. Like many travelers, I figured the upgraded seat and extra legroom would be worth it for such a long ride. I showed up early at 6:45 am, excited about my $168 'premium' experience, but honestly, the upgrade just wasn't worth the extra cost.
From my experience riding trains across the US, I've learned that coach class on Amtrak is actually pretty comfortable already. The regular seats have decent legroom, and you're saving a significant amount of money that could be better spent at your destination. After several long-distance train journeys, I've found that the key to comfort isn't necessarily the class of service, but rather choosing your travel time wisely and bringing the right accessories like a good neck pillow and entertainment. This Amtrak Business Class Value update reminds me of similar changes I've seen elsewhere.
