I have been sitting in bulkhead seats quite often lately on United, mostly due to complimentary upgrades. I am starting to question whether the extra legroom is worth the tradeoffs.
One recurring issue is how the space in front of bulkhead seats is treated by other passengers. People frequently cut through the area to reach the other aisle’s restroom, talk to someone across the cabin, or move between sections. In doing so, I have had passengers step over my legs, step on my feet, or bump into my personal items.
My concern is whether this area should be considered part of the personal space of the seat, similar to how you would not cross through another passenger’s row mid cabin. I understand flight attendants and crew need access, which is not an issue, but casual foot traffic from other passengers feels disruptive and sometimes unsafe.
On a recent flight, a passenger rushed through, stepped on my toes, and did not acknowledge it. On the return, they again seemed to expect me to move my legs out of the way for their convenience. I directed them to use the proper cross aisle instead.
I am curious how others view this. Is the bulkhead floor space generally considered a shared walkway, or should passengers be more mindful and avoid cutting through it when alternatives exist?
