Just wrapped up a two week Australia trip and burned a little over 500k points across flights and hotels. Did Tokyo for 13 hours on the way out, then 6 nights in Melbourne, 2 in Cairns, 4 in Sydney, and another day in Tokyo on the way back.
Used 137k ANA miles for a West Coast to Tokyo to Sydney round trip in J, except the last leg home which ended up in premium economy since J never opened up. Little side hops with Alaska miles, plus a mix of Hyatt, Hilton, and IHG points for the stays. Even used an FHR credit for a cheap Intercontinental night.
Melbourne ended up being my favorite with the art, museums, Great Ocean Road, Yarra Valley… just such a good mix. Cairns was incredible too, between the reef flights, snorkeling trips, and the natural scenery. Sydney was nice but felt more like a big city compared to the other spots.
Tokyo hotels were a mixed bag but Toranomon Hills was the winner. Bed was great, lounge was great, subway right there. If I’m back in Tokyo, that’s my pick.
Overall just one of those once in a lifetime trips. This sub definitely helped make it happen.
