I’ll never forget June 8, 2022. We had just landed in Boston from London on one of British Airways’ massive A380s, and everything seemed routine. Then, as we waited for the return leg later that day, word started spreading that something was wrong. It turned out a piece of ground equipment at the gate had malfunctioned, wiping out major electrical systems on the plane.
What followed was pure chaos the flight was canceled, hundreds of us were scrambling to rebook, and Boston hotel rooms filled up fast. I spent two extra days in the city, living out of a carry-on, while BA worked to get everyone home.
At the time, I didn’t know the plane would be grounded for weeks and that a lawsuit would follow years later. All I knew was that our quick hop back to London had turned into an unexpected, and very expensive, layover.
