Trip report after flying with British Airways on an A380 route between London Heathrow and San Francisco using a Companion Voucher.
Outbound flight was in Premium Economy due to no Club World availability at booking. The experience was generally positive with good comfort and excellent food, including a slow-cooked lamb dish. Minor issues included no automatic drinks service after dinner until morning unless requested, and inconvenient toilet access requiring passing through the Economy cabin.
Return flight was in Club World, booked in seats designed to avoid climbing over strangers. The seating layout was found to be awkward due to the “yin-yang” configuration, making interactions with strangers uncomfortable during takeoff and landing. Moving to and from the window seat required climbing over other passengers, which was also considered inconvenient, especially when they were asleep. Service delivery was also more difficult from window seats.
Overall, Premium Economy was preferred for food quality, while Club World was considered less comfortable due to seat design. The trip was still worthwhile due to redemption value using vouchers and Avios.
