My parents booked a domestic flight with Breeze Airways for next month. They later received an email stating there had been a “change,” but no details were provided.
After calling support, they were told that the fare has increased by $250 per person (total $500) due to fuel costs, or they must pay a cancellation fee.
This seems unusual because:
The ticket was already purchased and confirmed
Airlines typically do not retroactively increase fares after ticketing
Cancellation fees are normally only applied if the passenger chooses to cancel, not imposed after purchase
We were under the impression that once a flight is booked and confirmed, the fare is locked in unless the passenger voluntarily makes changes.
Am I missing something here, or is this not standard airline practice?
