Bought an eSIM in Istanbul, but installer plugged my phone into a laptop. Is that normal or was it unnecessary?

I’m not very technical and recently started using an eSIM while traveling. I’m currently in Istanbul and purchased one at the airport. When the staff helped install it, they unexpectedly connected my phone to a laptop using a USB-C cable.

I was under the impression that an eSIM can be activated digitally without needing a physical connection to another device. Is it normal for them to plug the phone into a computer during setup, or should I be concerned about this process?
