Booking.com “pay the property before arrival” for a long stay, when do they actually charge?

I’m looking to book a specific budget hotel in SE Asia for a long stay, about 85 days, several months in advance to lock in a discounted rate. On Booking.com it says “pay the property before arrival,” and I’m trying to understand what that actually means in practice.

Does that usually mean the hotel charges your card a few days before arrival? Or could they charge it at some random point months ahead of time? Or something else entirely?

I know this is a much longer booking than usual and a decent chunk of money, but I’m fine with that if it secures the place and price. Just trying to avoid surprises with when the charge hits.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s booked long stays with this payment wording before.
