Ran into a situation that made me question whether booking round trips is even worth it anymore.
I flew the outbound of a trip and needed to move the return flight LAX → BOS (Flagship First on the A321T) by one day. When I called to change it, they told me it would cost an extra $2000, which made zero sense.
Out of curiosity I checked the price for that exact same flight as a new one-way ticket, and it was $1300.
I asked if I could just cancel the return and get a trip credit, but they said it would only be a flight credit. Then when I asked how much the credit would be, they couldn’t tell me because part of the ticket had already been used.
I even tried estimating it myself based on the loyalty points from the outbound, but they wouldn’t confirm anything.
In the end I paid $200 to downgrade to Flagship Business just so I could move the return to the next day.
Honestly feels like if I had just booked two one-way tickets from the start, none of this would’ve been an issue.
Curious if others here book one-ways instead of round trips for this reason.
