Yeah… calling that an upgrade is a stretch.
Unless the room category is objectively higher (corner, larger square footage, better view), switching from a king to two queens usually feels like a lateral move at best, downgrade at worst if you wanted one bed.
The “we’re sold out” line when the app shows availability is also frustrating. Sometimes inventory in the app doesn’t reflect what’s actually assignable that night, especially with points vs paid categories. But saying you can’t even pay to move up does feel odd.
That said, sold out resort in Hawaii, points stay, 5th night free… they probably prioritized getting everyone into something workable and moved on.
Annoying start, but at least you’ve got ocean views and apparently great pizza at the bar. Sometimes that saves the mood.
