Back in December I booked flights to Japan through Booking.com, flying with China Eastern Airlines. I normally use Booking.com for hotels and felt more comfortable booking there because I had trouble navigating the airline’s website.
At the end of January, the airline cancelled the China → Japan leg of my outbound journey with no explanation.
About a week later, Booking.com offered an alternative flight via GoToGate, which I accepted. The problem is that over a month has passed and the tickets still haven’t been issued.
I’ve contacted Booking.com multiple times through both chat and phone. Each time they say the flight request has been submitted to the airline for approval, but I find it hard to believe that ticket approval would take four weeks.
If I rebook now myself, the flights would cost about £400 more, and Booking.com says they can’t offer a partial refund for the cancelled segment. I also contacted the airline directly, but they told me everything must be handled through the booking agency.
My trip is scheduled for the first week of April, and right now I honestly have no idea if I’m actually going to Japan or not.
Has anyone dealt with something similar when booking flights through Booking.com?
