Booked 747-8 ORD–FRA… gamble on lower deck for Allegris?

For a November 2026 flight, you’re basically playing the long game.

Right now only a small number of 747-8s are getting Allegris refits, and Lufthansa swaps aircraft around all the time. The fact that FlightAware is currently showing A340 tells you everything about how fluid this route can be.

A few thoughts:

Top deck on the current 747-8 is still a great experience. It’s quieter, smaller cabin, feels exclusive.

Lower deck gamble only makes sense if you’re specifically chasing the new Allegris seat and are okay with potentially ending up in the “old” 2-2 layout if the refit doesn’t happen.

For Nov 2026, odds are better that more 747s will be converted by then, but there’s zero guarantee your specific tail will be.

If it were me:

If you value certainty and like the upper deck vibe, stay there.

If you really want Allegris and don’t mind rolling the dice for over a year and a half, move to the lower deck and monitor seat maps closer to departure.

Personally, I’d stick with the top deck for now and only switch once you see a confirmed Allegris seat map loaded.
