I’ve been in the hotel industry a while and you slowly pick up little things that end up making a huge difference. Two that really changed things for me:
We installed flow regulators on guest room sinks and showers. Dropped the flow from about 12 liters per minute to 8. Guests don’t notice at all since the pressure feels the same, but the water bill difference was massive. Didn’t bother with bathtubs since people just fill them anyway and complain if it takes longer.
The other one is calling guests after lower reviews. If someone leaves a below average rating, I’ll sometimes just call and ask what went wrong. A surprising number of times they actually loved the stay and clicked the wrong rating. I’ve had a few get corrected just by reaching out.
Curious what other hotel folks have learned over time. What’s one trick or habit that made a real difference for you?
