Biggest campsite selection mistakes while backpacking and lessons learned

What has been your worst mistake when choosing a campsite while backpacking?

My own mistake was trusting the weather forecast too much. It predicted no rain, but I ended up dealing with unexpected bad weather at camp anyway.

It was a good reminder that forecasts are not always reliable in the wilderness, and campsite choices should account for that uncertainty.
