Almost got caught by this and figured it’s worth sharing.
I accidentally misdialed the Hilton reservations number by one digit and reached 800-446-6667 instead of the real Hilton number (800-446-6677 or 888-446-6677).
A rep answered like it was a normal booking line. I asked about booking a stay using my Amex free night certificate. He checked dates and said there was availability, but then told me there would be a $320+ charge to book it.
That immediately felt wrong because I’ve used these certificates before and never had to pay like that. I hung up right away.
Afterward I realized I had dialed the wrong number. Luckily I didn’t give them my credit card, but they did get my name and address during the call. I changed my Hilton password right after just to be safe.
One thing I should’ve noticed earlier was he didn’t greet me as a Diamond member, which Hilton usually does.
Just a heads up in case anyone else accidentally dials the wrong number.
