Best road trip I’ve done, small towns with big charm

Last summer I set out for a small-town road trip, avoiding interstates and big cities, and it turned out to be one of my favorite travel experiences. I wandered through places like Yellow Springs (OH), Winona Lake (IN), and even made it down parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Each stop felt like stepping back into a slower pace town squares, little diners, community festivals, and locals who were actually excited to chat with a stranger passing through.

The best part was how different each town felt without ever being overwhelming. I’d grab coffee on a historic main street, bike a little along a lake or river, then end the day with a local brewery or live music at a community event. It was the kind of trip where you don’t need a schedule just a map, a tank of gas, and time to let the small towns surprise you.
