I’ve done quite a bit of research already, but I’m still looking for advice from people with real experience.
I’m a German/EU citizen planning to base myself in Southeast Asia with a maximum monthly budget of around $1200–1300 (about €1100). This budget needs to cover everything, including living costs, travel, visa expenses, and health insurance.
I’m looking for a place that fits the following criteria:
Good air quality
Relaxed, peaceful, green environment
Close to the coast with access to surfing or scuba diving
Warm, sunny weather that’s still comfortable to be outside
A solid international community and opportunities to socialize through activities
Access to good specialty coffee
So far, I’m mainly considering countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand, but I’m open to suggestions. Ideally, I’d like to find a main base and possibly rotate between a couple of locations depending on visa requirements and lifestyle fit.
