Beach Days or Backyard BBQs? Cape Cod’s Tent Culture is Getting Out of Hand

Spent last weekend at Nauset Beach and honestly, I felt like I wandered into a beachfront suburb. I was surrounded by oversized tents, inflatable couches, portable fans, and people wheeling in what looked like entire living rooms. Gone are the days of a towel and a paperback. It’s giving backyard BBQ with a sea breeze. I get wanting comfort and shade, but when everyone sets up their 10x10 cabana kingdom, it kills the whole vibe of open beach space.

This trend is exploding all over Cape Cod, the Vineyard, and even up in Maine. Some folks love it, others say it’s ruining the beach-going experience. I’m kind of torn. Have you run into this? Do you think beaches should limit tent sizes or zones, or is this just the new normal?
