I’ve flown American a lot over the past year, about once a month, and I’ve almost always booked basic economy with zero issues. Looking at a flight now and it’s $264 for basic economy vs $364 for main cabin. If I want to pick a seat, it’s like $11. That feels like a no-brainer to me.
I’ve never been forced to check a carry-on, and even when flying with others, paying $10–15 for a seat has kept me from getting reassigned. Sure, I board in one of the last groups, but that really hasn’t bothered me.
Reading this sub, it sounds like basic economy is way worse than what I’ve experienced, so now I’m wondering if the advice is outdated or if I’ve just been lucky so far. Is there some big downside I’m missing that actually makes main cabin worth the extra $100?
