My wife and I fly US–UK 3–4 times a year. Usually business one way, economy back. For the last six years that’s comfortably kept us at Silver without trying too hard. We’re not mileage runners, just steady transatlantic customers who occasionally splurge.
With the move to revenue-based qualification, that same pattern doesn’t even get close anymore. And with the fixed membership year deadlines, there’s no real room to time trips strategically either.
Once we realized Silver is basically out of reach under the new structure, something shifted. We stopped automatically booking BA. Our first post-Silver trip in May? Virgin.
BA isn’t the cheapest, the lounges have slipped, and the onboard experience isn’t what it used to be. Silver perks were the glue. Without that, there’s not much keeping us loyal.
We know at least four other UK-origin couples in NYC in the same situation. I can’t imagine we’re alone. It feels like BA assumed loyalty would stick regardless of the changes.
I’ll genuinely miss parts of it, especially the Gate B lounge at T5 (the kids’ area is a lifesaver). But after April 30th, that chapter’s probably done for us.
Curious how many others are in the same boat. Do we think BA walks this back eventually if enough mid-tier loyalists drift away?
