BART Finally Ends Dreaded $6.40 Fee With New Contactless Payment Rollout

Starting August 20, BART riders in the Bay Area can skip the Clipper card and tap a credit or digital wallet at the gates and the best part? It ends that annoying $6.40 excursion fare if you tap in but don’t ride. A new 30-minute grace period now applies for anyone using contactless payments like Apple Pay or tap-enabled cards.

Honestly, it’s about time. That fee always felt like a penalty for making a mistake. I’m curious how many of you are ready to ditch Clipper altogether? And do you think this will help ease some of BART’s long-standing frustrations?
