I flew from Newark (EWR) to Athens on United and had to gate-check my carry-on.
When I arrived in Athens, my bag was missing, but there was another suitcase that looked very similar sitting in the baggage area. I suspect someone may have taken my bag by mistake.
There didn’t seem to be a dedicated United baggage service desk at the airport, and staff told me they couldn’t contact the other passenger or do much beyond waiting. After some time, I was advised to either wait a bit longer or file a report.
I ended up calling United myself and filing a delayed baggage claim. I was told to wait 24 hours before escalating to a lost baggage claim.
I was also told to keep receipts for any essential items I need to buy, but that reimbursement is only covered for about two days of necessities, even though I’ll be without my bag for a week-long trip.
I’m frustrated and confused about how this situation is being handled and wondering if others have experienced something similar.
