My husband and I usually just travel with one backpack each and that’s it. They fit under the seat so we’ve never really dealt with carry on rules beyond that.
For our next AA trip we can technically fit everything in the backpacks, but it’s tight. I was thinking of moving a few things into a small zippered beach tote and bringing that too.
If I do that, would the tote count as my personal item and the backpack become my carry on? So tote under the seat and backpack in the overhead?
Also… if overhead space fills up, could they take my backpack and gate check it even if it’s my only larger item?
Sorry if this is basic. I just really don’t want to get to the gate and realize I misunderstood the rules. I’m very much a “follow the rules and avoid stress” traveler 😅
