Booked EZE–JFK (AA)–LHR (BA) in Business, ticketed by American.
Before departure, BA offered a paid upgrade to First on JFK–LHR for $700. I paid, seat confirmed.
Night before travel, AA rerouted me to EZE–MAD (Iberia)–LHR (BA) due to aircraft issues and misconnect risk. No other options offered.
Now I’m dealing with two problems:
Downgrade
The Iberia segment obviously had no First, so I lost the First experience I paid for. BA agents on the phone say the $700 should be refunded, but every online claim gets rejected. They’ve also said I might be eligible for EU261 downgrade compensation, but AA won’t engage.
Tier Points
Original routing (Business + paid First) should have earned 3,000+ TP. I’ve only been credited 400 TP for MAD–LHR. Filed missing TP claims, but no resolution.
Both airlines keep pointing at each other.
Has anyone been through something similar with BA/AA/Iberia?
• Who actually handles the refund and any EU261 downgrade compensation?
• How do you get the correct Tier Points credited in a case like this?
• Is this CEDR territory at this point?
