We were scheduled to fly from Heathrow Airport to the US West Coast with British Airways in premium economy. We had also paid extra to select seats so we could sit together.
On the day of departure, we received an email saying our flight had been cancelled and that we were rebooked on another airline departing a couple of hours later. We accepted the change since it seemed like the only option.
However, at check-in for the new flight, we found out we were assigned separate middle seats instead of sitting together. To make things more confusing, we later saw that the original flight we were supposed to take actually departed as scheduled.
This has left us wondering if we were removed due to overbooking rather than a real cancellation, and what options or compensation we might be entitled to in this situation.
