Flew Heathrow to JFK over New Year and back a week later, and honestly I’m shocked at how bad it was compared to a few years ago.
Heathrow check-in was confusing and the BA staff were rude and unhelpful. On the outbound flight there was basically one drinks service the whole time. I had to ask three times for a cup of tea after being asked what I wanted and then forgotten. People were walking to the back just to get water.
We were in the back row of a 777 and cabin crew were sitting back there chatting loudly about personal stuff while people were trying to sleep. When I politely asked for a tea, I got snapped at. Same with the snack later, was made to feel like I was being difficult for asking. At one point a crew member hit me in the head getting something from the overhead and didn’t even acknowledge it.
Return from JFK wasn’t better. Ground staff wouldn’t help people with broken kiosks. Onboard, food was served right as turbulence kicked off, so trays were sliding everywhere and food went cold. After that, no more drink service. One small bottle of water and a tea about six hours in on a long flight.
The snack was awful too. Some squashed cheesy muffin thing stuck to the wrapper. While there was turbulence, my friend was visibly distressed and scared of flying and not once did any crew check on her.
What really gets me is that I’ve flown this exact route with BA before and it was nothing like this. Crew were attentive, kind, and actually seemed to care. This time it felt like passengers were an inconvenience.
If we go back to NYC, it won’t be with BA. Which is wild to say, because they used to be my go to.
