I have about 150k RBC Avion points and have never redeemed them before. I’m trying to use them for flights and I’m genuinely confused.
Example: one way Paris to Vancouver shows as 32,500 points plus about $450. But the exact same flight booked directly with WestJet is around $450 cash. That makes it feel like I’d just be throwing away points for no benefit.
My original goal was to use these points to splurge a bit and fly my mum and me in business class so she could have a lie flat seat, but based on what I’m seeing this seems totally unrealistic.
I’m clearly inexperienced with Avion redemptions, so I assume I’m missing something obvious.
Question:
• Is booking flights directly through the Avion portal just bad value?
