Hi everyone. My girlfriend and I recently spent about 4.5 months traveling through Latin America (Aug to Dec) and 3.5 months in Asia (Dec to Apr), and I thought I would share a breakdown of our average spending per person. This might help others planning similar trips.
We mostly stayed in private rooms or Airbnbs. We also did some higher cost activities like the Inca Trail (~£680 per person). The “other” category includes SIM cards, ATM fees, visas, and miscellaneous items. Flights are not included since they vary widely.
Latin America (per person)
Mexico: £50/day
Guatemala: £50/day
El Salvador: £38/day
Peru: £74/day
Bolivia: £47/day
Chile: £61/day
Argentina: £65/day
Brazil: £65/day
Asia (per person)
Thailand: £43/day
Laos: £33/day
Cambodia: £41/day
Vietnam: £38/day
China: £47/day
Overall, Asia was generally cheaper on a daily basis, while Latin America had more variation depending on activities and country.
