Sorry in advance for a fairly simple review.
My wife and I stayed at the InterContinental Athens over the weekend for our honeymoon. It was a short stay, but overall enjoyable. My status was acknowledged multiple times during check-in and throughout the stay, which felt a bit excessive, but I assume that is standard procedure.
We received an upgrade to one of the renovated rooms. My expectations were not particularly high, so I was not completely blown away, but the room was still comfortable and decent overall. The rooftop view of the Acropolis was definitely a highlight.
We were given drink vouchers, although they only covered beer, wine, or soda rather than cocktails, which was slightly disappointing but not a major issue.
One downside was the bathroom layout. The shower had no door, and water tended to spread across the floor quite easily. A better drainage setup would have helped. On the positive side, the rain shower and handheld options were good, and the tile design looked nice.
The surrounding area was described by my wife as “filthy, but not unsafe during the day.” We did find a local grill house nearby which was simple but very good value, with meals under 10 euros depending on what you order.
We also spent time visiting the Acropolis and walking around the city, which was a great experience overall.
In general, Athens itself was fine, the hotel was solid, but I am not sure I would stay here again mainly due to cost and distance from the airport.
