Atelier review after 5 nights (late 20s couple, no Inspira)

My fiancé and I stayed at Atelier for 5 nights earlier this month to celebrate our engagement. It’s recommended a lot here, so figured I’d share a detailed take.

For context, we’re late 20s, NYC based, well traveled, and not really AI people. We booked the lowest tier room (2 queens, no view, no Inspira).

Check-in was smooth, but Atelier tried to charge ~$275 for airport transfers, which felt wild. We used USA Transfers instead for $125 round trip. Also got the immediate Inspira pitch at check-in, which was a bit aggressive, but otherwise fine.

The crowd skewed older than us, lots of couples and groups, fewer under-25s. Not a party resort at all. The “club” is bad, like comically bad. People dressed nicer than expected for dinners, which we liked.

Room was large, spotless, and well maintained. Huge tub, great housekeeping, turn-down service, free beer/water/snacks, and included room service (breakfast was meh). We were in building 3, a bit of a walk but no big deal.

Drinks were inconsistent. Same drink could taste totally different depending on bartender. Some were light pours, though they do have top-shelf liquor.

Beach was fine, a little windy while we were there. No sargassum smell. Plenty of chairs later in the day. Inspira beach section didn’t give us any FOMO.

Pool situation is the usual towel game. Chairs mostly gone by 8–8:30, Bali beds by ~7:30. We did overhear a towel guy basically reserving beds for guests who tipped him, which was annoying. Pool food was solid for pool food (bao buns were great).

Gym was crowded, especially early mornings. Good equipment, just busy.

Food was very hit or miss. Italian was fine, Mediterranean was good, Asian was bad, steakhouse was about as good as you’d expect at an AI. Breakfast buffet was actually one of the best meals, especially the quesadilla station. Mexican night at Mercado 19 was our favorite meal overall. Wish they leaned harder into Mexican food in general. The taco carts at night were a highlight.

Service was generally good, but tipping definitely mattered. We spent around $300 in cash on tips. Most staff were great, except one towel guy who was consistently unpleasant despite tipping.

Big question: Inspira. We skipped it and felt zero regret. No feeling of being second-class. Rooftop pool wasn’t appealing, reserved seating didn’t seem worth it, and the extras didn’t justify the cost for us. Easy skip unless you really want a swim-out or are in a big group.

Overall, we had a great time. Very relaxing, felt like a splurge without feeling ripped off. We’re still not big AI people, but I’d recommend Atelier, even to friends who usually prefer nicer hotels.
