Another United 787 Returns Mid-Flight

As someone who logs quite a few hours on long-haul flights, stories like these always grab my attention. A United 787-9 on its way to Cape Town had to turn back mid-Atlantic due to a spoiler warning and it’s not even the first time that specific aircraft had issues. Just last month, it had to return from a flight to Delhi due to an avionics cooling problem. Add that to another 787 engine failure out of Dulles recently, and it’s hard not to wonder: coincidence, or deeper maintenance issues?

I get that planes experience technical alerts all the time, but when the same tail number pops up multiple times in a short span, it feels a little unsettling especially on routes where you’re hours from the nearest diversion airport.

Would love to hear from others who fly United regularly. Are you feeling confident in their Dreamliners, or are you keeping an extra close eye on the aircraft type next time you book?
