I am currently stuck on Amtrak Silver Meteor Train 98 near DeLand, Florida.
I boarded the train in DeLand at around 1:40 PM yesterday. Things were normal at first, but later we experienced major delays due to a fire south of Jacksonville. After waiting for about 6–7 hours, we were told to turn the train back.
We eventually made it back near Palatka, but then stopped again just outside DeLand, where we have now been sitting for roughly 10 more hours with very little clear communication or updates.
Passengers are exhausted and frustrated, and onboard conditions have become increasingly unsanitary due to overflowing bathrooms. The situation is deteriorating and tensions are rising.
I am asking whether anyone else is on this train or has received any official updates, and what options are available in a situation like this.
