According to a Siemens employee post on LinkedIn, Amtrak has conditionally accepted its first “Airo” trainset.
Reports suggest that three Cascades Airo sets have been sent to Amtrak’s testing and acceptance team based in Philadelphia for evaluation. Additionally, rail enthusiasts indicate that the first unit may be moved to Seattle soon, with another expected later in the summer for further testing.
Amtrak leadership has previously stated that the new Airo trains are expected to enter service on the Cascades route in late summer or fall. Before full deployment, crews and maintenance staff along the corridor will need training and familiarization with the new equipment, and Amtrak aims to have multiple trainsets ready before launch.
