Amex really let me go over one late day after 19 years

Been with Amex since 2006, Platinum since 2015, always paid in full, never missed a payment. I use my bank’s bill pay to auto pull the full statement balance. For some reason in October the e-bill never showed up, so the payment didn’t go out. I caught it the next day and paid manually… but it still counted as one day late.


Amex hit me with a 29 dollar late fee plus over 1,000 in interest because of trailing interest. Called Platinum support, explained the whole thing, asked for a one time exception. They refused. Escalated, got denied again. Nineteen years with them and they wouldn’t waive a charge caused by a glitch I fixed immediately.


I told them if that’s how it is, I’d rather cancel the card. Retention tried the whole benefits speech but still wouldn’t fix the charges, so I closed it. Wild that they’re throwing huge bonuses at new Platinum members but won’t keep a long term customer over something like this.


Guess all my spend goes to the CSR now. Mostly just disappointed.
