AmEx Platinum lounge access at ONT was basically useless

Had a long workday and a red eye out of Ontario. Laptop dying, phone almost dead, tablet not far behind. So I head to the Aspire Lounge in Terminal 2, the only lounge there, expecting at least a chair, Wi-Fi, and power.

First they tell me I can’t enter until 8:30pm unless I’m premium on China Airlines. Annoying, but fine. I camped near one of the three power outlets in the entire terminal like it was a Black Friday doorbuster.

I come back at exactly 8:30 and now I’m told actually no one’s getting in until 10:30pm.

My flight leaves at 10:30.

So the lounge exists, it’s empty, it’s supposedly an AmEx Platinum benefit, and the access window is exactly when I’m no longer in the airport.

I’m genuinely curious what I’m paying for when lounge access runs on airline favoritism and constantly changing rules. I don’t need luxury. Just electricity and a place to sit that doesn’t feel like a competitive sport.

Back to charging devices in the corner like it’s 2004.
